About CAGR Calculator
This tool computes the Compound Annual Growth Rate between a starting value and an ending value over a given number of years, and also reports the total return percentage across the whole period. CAGR describes the constant annual rate that would grow the start value into the end value if profits were reinvested each year. It is commonly used for investment, revenue, or any metric where you want a smoothed annualized growth figure.
How to Use
1. Enter Start Value (for example the initial investment 10000). 2. Enter End Value (the value at the end of the period, for example 15000). 3. Enter Years (the length of the period, e.g. 3; decimals like 2.5 are accepted). 4. Press Calculate. The result card shows CAGR as a percentage (the annualized rate) and Total Return as a percentage (the total gain or loss across the whole period).
The Formula
CAGR = (End Value / Start Value) ^ (1 / Years) - 1, then multiplied by 100 to display as a percentage. Total Return = (End Value - Start Value) / Start Value * 100. Both outputs are rounded to two decimal places. The tool requires Start Value greater than zero and Years greater than zero (step 0.01 allowed); End Value may be smaller than Start Value, in which case the CAGR will be negative.
