Data Storage Converter
Free online data storage unit converter, bit/KB/MB/GB conversion
About Data Storage Converter
This tool converts a single digital storage value into every supported unit at once. Enter a value, pick the source unit, and the tool shows the equivalent amount in all ten units simultaneously, highlighting the one that best fits the 1..1024 range. Clicking any result copies it to the clipboard.
How to Use
1. Type the Value to convert (e.g. 1). 2. Pick the source unit from the dropdown (Bit, Byte, Kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, Terabyte, Petabyte, Kilobit, Megabit, or Gigabit). 3. Read the Results grid: each row shows a target unit and its converted value, with the best-fit unit (between 1 and 1024) highlighted. 4. Click any row to copy its formatted value to the clipboard.
Unit Reference
Binary-style units use 1024 multipliers: 1 Byte = 8 bits, 1 KB = 1024 bytes, 1 MB = 1024^2 bytes, 1 GB = 1024^3 bytes, 1 TB = 1024^4 bytes, 1 PB = 1024^5 bytes. Decimal-style bit-rate units use 1000 multipliers: 1 Kbit = 1000 bits (1000/8 bytes), 1 Mbit = 10^6 bits (10^6/8 bytes), 1 Gbit = 10^9 bits (10^9/8 bytes). Conversions are computed by converting the source value to bytes through its factor, then dividing by the target unit's factor. Output formatting switches between fixed (for 1..1023), 6-significant-digit precision, and exponential notation for very small values.
▶Why are KB / MB / GB shown as multiples of 1024 here?
▶What is the highlighted 'best-fit' row?
▶Why might very small results look like 1.2345e-7?
▶Is my data sent to a server?
