About Income Tax Calculator
This tool estimates US federal income tax using a progressive bracket system with a standard deduction. Enter your gross annual income and filing status; the tool subtracts the standard deduction, then applies each marginal rate only to the income that falls within that bracket, and reports taxable income, total tax, take-home pay, and effective rate.
How to Use
1. Enter your Annual Income (gross, before tax) in the input field. 2. Choose Filing Status: "single" or "married" (married doubles the standard deduction from $13,850 to $27,700). 3. Click Calculate. 4. Read the four output cards: Gross Income, Taxable Income, Tax owed (red), and Take-Home (green), plus the Effective Rate percentage at the bottom.
Tax Brackets
Marginal brackets applied to taxable income: 5% on $0-$11,000; 12% on $11,001-$44,725; 22% on $44,726-$95,375; 24% on $95,376-$182,050; 32% on $182,051-$231,250; 35% on $231,251-$578,125; 37% above $578,125. Standard deduction is $13,850 (single) or $27,700 (married). Effective rate = total tax ÷ gross income × 100.
