Text Truncate

This tool shortens text by characters, words, or sentences, with an optional trailing ellipsis. It updates the output live as you type and applies sensible defaults for each mode: 100 characters, 20 words, or 3 sentences.

1. Paste or type your text into the Input box. 2. Choose a Mode from the select: Chars, Words, or Sentences. 3. Set the Limit (1-100000); switching Mode resets it to that mode's default. 4. Tick or untick the Ellipsis checkbox to control whether a trailing ... is appended. 5. Read the truncated result in the Output area; use Copy to copy it or Clear to reset.

In Chars mode the tool keeps up to the limit number of characters and, when adding an ellipsis, backs off to the previous space so words are not cut mid-token. In Words mode it splits on whitespace and keeps the first N non-empty words, joining them with single spaces. In Sentences mode it splits on sentence-ending punctuation (.!?) followed by whitespace and keeps the first N sentences; if no such punctuation is found the whole input is treated as a single sentence. Switching Mode resets the Limit to 100, 20, or 3 respectively, and the ellipsis toggle is shared across modes.
